SINGAPORE - Visitors to East Coast Park will enjoy more open space, family-friendly amenities and recreational options when two new developments are completed.

One of them, Parkland Green, will open to the public this September.

Previously a private golf driving range, the 4ha development will have eight dining establishments, sports and retail outlets and a laser tag arena. There will also be a 1ha open lawn for picnics and gatherings.

A covered walkway will link the area to an existing underpass at Marine Parade. It will also have a garden-themed carpark with 306 lots.

Another enclave undergoing redevelopment, Marine Cove, is on track to be completed by mid-2016.

It will have a playground and "a good mix of dining and recreational facilities to complement those at Parkland Green", said the National Parks Board (NParks) on Wednesday.

Both developments are part of efforts by NParks to cater to the large number of visitors at 185-ha East Coast Park, the largest and most popular park in Singapore.

Noting that the park attracts more than 7 million visitors annually, the board's Park Management and Lifestyle Cluster assistant chief executive officer Kong Yit San said: "The enhancement projects are part of NParks' continuous efforts to upgrade amenities and improve accessibility and connectivity within the park."
