Man charged with stabbing 62-year-old five times with scissors

An unemployed man has been charged on Monday with stabbing a 62-year-old at the void deck of a housing board flat in Ang Mo Kio.

No plea was taken from Ong Eng Huat, 43, who allegedly stabbed Chinese national He Jinzhu five times with a pair of scissors at about 6.15am last Saturday.

Ong, who was arrested that afternoon, is also believed to have attacked two other men in Yishun in the three hours following the first attack.

Police said that the case was particularly unsettling as he had seemingly targeted random victims. Ong is remanded for psychiatric evaluation until April 28 when his case will be mentioned.

If convicted, he could be jailed for up to seven years, fined, caned or given any of the combined punishment.
