SINGAPORE - To coincide with Mr Lee Kuan Yew's 91st birthday next Tuesday, a local tour guide is organising a walking tour called the Founding Father of Modern Singapore.

Ms Chia Bee Lian, 58, will take groups on walking tours of Dhoby Ghaut, City Hall and Tanjong Pagar and highlight places significant to Mr Lee. The three-hour tour, which starts at the Istana Park and ends at the Urban Redevelopment Authority in Maxwell Road, is open to all.

It will be held every Monday morning and offered free for the next few months. An additional tour session will also be held on Mr Lee's birthday, Sept 16.

To come up with the tour, Ms Chia read nearly 30 books about Mr Lee and went through documents in the National Archives of Singapore. For example, the tour will include Raffles Hotel where Mr Lee's wedding reception was held in 1950.

Ms Chia is doing this tour in collaboration with online travel agency portal MeGuideU and regional hospitality assets company Far East Hospitality.

She said: "I wanted to come up with a tour about a person in high office, and what better candidate than Mr Lee?"

According to MeGuideU, which is coordinating the tours, Ms Chia is the only one of the more than 100 tour guides on its portal offering a walking tour about Singapore's founding father.
