Evergreen singer-actress Judy Ongg was in town on Friday night to perform at the inaugural Community Chest - Singapore Chinese Orchestra Mother's Day Charity Concert.
The 64-year-old Ongg, who lives in Japan, made a rare appearance at a concert attended by Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Social and Family Development, and helped the Community Chest raise $850,000.
She also donated a painting she created, Sensations of Spring, that was put up for auction during the concert. Funds raised from the charity concert will go towards helping families in need under the more than 40 programmes run by the Community Chest. These donations will also be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Government under the Care and Share Movement, a national fund-raising and volunteerism movement led by Community Chest this year.
