An egg hunt with a difference is one of a series of Easter-themed activities being held for visitors to Sentosa, Mount Faber and the HarbourFront area over the next month.

A hundred unique, hand-painted giant eggs have been scattered across all three areas, each with a Quick Response code - a type of barcode.

The person who "collects" the most eggs - by scanning them with their smartphones - by May 5 will win $5,000 in cash and a pink sapphire and diamond egg pendant worth over $10,000. If there is a tie, the winner will be decided by a lucky draw.

The "Great Egg-Venture" event is organised by the three-month-old Sentosa HarbourFront Business Association (SHBA), which has 33 members including Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) and HarbourFront Centre.

The association has pumped in $1 million for the inaugural, family-friendly festival and hopes to attract 200,000 visitors.

At yesterday's launch, Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing, the guest of honour, said it was one way "for families to spend time together and cherish family moments".

This weekend, many shops and eateries in the areas are hosting Easter egg hunts and offering Easter-themed meals.

Other activities like Easter-related baking classes will take place until May 11.

While Easter Sunday tomorrow marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ for Christians, the tradition of painting and decorating Easter eggs is a popular, non-religious activity.

SHBA chairman Goh Chye Boon, who is also RWS' executive vice-president of resort operations, said the event will be held annually.

"It is also the first of many events and celebration activities that will add to the precinct's vibrancy," he said.
