Gardens by the Bay welcomes 10 millionth visitor

SINGAPORE - Gardens by the Bay welcomed its 10-millionth visitor on Sunday, a week ahead of its second anniversary on 29 June 2014.

Mr Kho Su Kiak from Sarawak, Malaysia, who is visiting his daughter and her family in Singapore, was surprised with a gift as he entered the Flower Dome.

"This is such an unexpected surprise! It was my daughter's idea to bring my wife and I to Gardens by the Bay as we both enjoy nature," he said.

"It's wonderful to see so many beautiful and interesting plants that we don't get to see back home. The Supertrees are unique. And I like the cactus too," said the 73-year-old.

The gift included a private guided tour of the horticulture attraction, a "Friends of the Gardens" annual membership for five family members and a hamper filled with merchandise including apparel, home ware, books and novelty items.

Mrs Theresa Foo, chairman of Gardens by the Bay, said on Sunday: "For Gardens by the Bay to welcome 10 million visitors before turning two is a remarkable milestone for us. We are grateful for the support of staff, volunteers, partners and visitors - all of whom have contributed in some way towards bringing this people's garden to fruition.

"We have opened our doors and experiences to many, and look forward to continuing to engage and excite all who visit us from near and far. We hope that Singaporeans will continue to grow with us and make this a place they can enjoy with their family and friends."
