Foreign workers save toddler: 6 other recent cases where heroes among us stepped forward

A foreign worker is Singapore's hero of the moment after he saved a toddler whose head was stuck between the rails of a clothes-drying rack outside a second-floor HDB unit.

Mr Subramanian Shanmuganathan, who hails from Chennai, was repairing the road near Jurong East Street 32 when the incident happened on Thursday afternoon. He climbed onto a ledge and held the crying toddler up, while trying to get her back onto the other side of the ledge. A co-worker climbed up afterwards to help him.

The duo received the SCDF Public Spiritedness award on Friday.

A video showing Mr Shanmuganathan risking his life to save the toddler went viral, and it served as a reminder that ordinary people are capable of great acts of kindness.

Elderly man left in van: Man's plight moves strangers to reach out

The story of a noodle seller caring for his brother-in-law moved the boss of a wine and spirits export company so much that he offered to donate $700 a month to help pay for the intellectually disabled man's care.

The managing director of EPL Alliance, Mr Eric Ng, wants to pay for a place at a daycare centre for Mr Mah Ah Wah's brother-in-law, Mr Lee Guan.

Mr Mah, 67, could not afford to pay for a place at a daycare centre because of his meagre $1,000 monthly earnings as the owner of a noodle stall in Jurong East.

A heartwarming incident at a fast food outlet in Woodlands was captured by Facebook user Aishah Lim.

Ms Lim was dining at the Texas Chicken restaurant in Causeway Point shopping mall when she saw a young man giving a tray of food to a stranger, according to her Facebook post on Tuesday.

Kind taxi driver knocks on over 20 doors to find owner of bag left in his car

A taxi driver went the extra mile by knocking on the doors of over 20 units at a condominium to find a 13-year-old boy who had left a bag in his cab.

Unable to locate the teenager, the Transcab driver, identified as Mr Oh Kim Beng, left after about half an hour of searching, Shin Min Daily News reported on Monday.

But he finally managed to return the bag when the family contacted his company.

Army officer who helped NSF on MRT praised online

An army officer who helped mediate for a full-time national serviceman (NSF) being scolded by an angry member of the public was singled out for praise by the Singapore Army.

Lieutenant (LTA) Dionel Arun, 25, a platoon commander in the Singapore Guards' 3rd Battalion, was returning home on the MRT when he witnessed the misunderstanding, and quickly intervened.
