New waterfront Safra club in Punggol: 5 things about the $57.3m club

A new Safra club is slated to pop up along the Punggol Waterway by 2016 as the Government ramps up efforts to recognise sacrifices made by National Servicemen.

Details on this $57.3 million facility were revealed by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean at the ground breaking ceremony on June 18.

The five-storey premise spans 19,430 sq m and has been designed with young families and children in mind.

These are five interesting facts about it:

1. Architecture

The Safra Punggol leans heavily on the surrounding environment, its designers say, with a cascading facade that follows the slope in which it is built on. It will also be integrated with the Punggol Waterway.

2. Kidz Amaze

Touted as the first of its kind, this three-storey high, 23,000 sq ft indoor water playground promises to contain plenty of interactive features for children.

3. Childcare

The new club will also house a large eco-themed childcare centre. This includes the use of natural sunlight for lighting and hydroponic plants at learning and play areas to drive home the importance of going green to children.

4. Food, glorious food

With more than 10 F&B outlets on site, Safra Punggol could possibly provide the widest variety of dining choices among all the Safra clubs. This includes themed restaurants, alfresco dining and quick-service outlets.

5. Location

Sited a mere few minutes from the upcoming Sam Kee LRT station and right by the waterway, Safra Punggol hopes to remain accessible to the projected 70,000 NSmen who will live in the north-eastern part of Singapore by 2016.
