SINGAPORE - Fans of Universal Studios Singapore's (USS) Battlestar Galactica rollercoaster are eagerly anticipating the sci-fi themed ride's relaunch.

The Sunday Times reported over the weekend that the ride would finally be re-opening before the year's end - after it closed last July for an "attraction review". USS' owner Resorts World Sentosa has not given further details on why it has been unavailable for so long.

The two duelling rollercoasters, dubbed Human and Cylon, are 42.5m high and billed as the tallest of its kind in the world.

And adrenaline junkies here are looking forward to getting back on it.

"Waiting for Galactica to re-open and I WILL go again!" said Facebook user Vanz Jayz.

Cargo trader Scott Leong, 25, never got around to riding the Battlestar before it closed and now also plans to visit when it reopens.

"Lightning will never strike twice, I think they have already closed the ride for quite some time and performed sufficient checks to make sure it's safe now," he said.

The 90-second ride, which has sharp turns, vertical loops and can go as fast as 90kmh, got off to an inauspicious start when a seat fell off because of a technical glitch during a routine test in March 2010, just a week after Universal Studios here opened. No one was hurt, but the ride's licence was suspended immediately.

But a few users were less sanguine about the relaunch - hoping the ride would stay open this time.

"Hopefully they don't screw up the third time. All the other theme parks have no issues with their thrill rides, that they need to close for extended periods - so why (does) Singapore's ride (keep closing)?" said Facebook user Roger Pak.
