SINGAPORE - Sixty intrepid explorers discovered stories about Singapore's maritime past and took a walk with the dinosaurs on the first day of the inaugural The Straits Times Young Storymakers' Camp on Monday.

Throughout their learning journey, they shot photographs of the replica of the Fort Canning Lighthouse, the Waterboat House and dinosaur skeletons and fossils, which were used in a scrapbooking session with craft expert Papermarket.

The colourful pages they created went into their own copies of the brand new STep: My Year In The News, the latest learning resource from The Straits Times Schools team, which is behind the award-winning Little Red Dot weekly magazine.

The scrapbook binder is filled with fun current affairs activities, stickers, embellishments and word bank cards.

Ms Serene Luo, deputy editor of the Schools team and editor of the scrapbook, said: "Everyone has a story to tell. The Straits Times has been telling stories of Singapore for 169 years. Today, we wanted young readers to join in to tell their stories of their journeys."

Participant Nathan Lim, seven, said: "I was excited because I like dinosaurs - they are extinct and cannot be found on Earth anymore."

The camp continues into Tuesday.
