ESM Goh Chok Tong gets surprise visit from former English teacher

SINGAPORE - Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong had a surprise visit at his Meet-the-People session on Wednesday night.

His English teacher from Raffles Institution (RI) showed up.

"My old English teacher from RI, William Brohier, surprised me with a visit to my MPS last night, accompanied by another teacher, S Puhaindran," Mr Goh, 71, shared on his Facebook on Thursday.

Mr Brohier taught ESM Goh in lower secondary in RI. He now lives in Penang, and was once the principal of the School for the Blind in Penang.

Last December, Mr Goh wrote on Facebook that a young lady who visited Mr Brohier in Penang delivered a letter from the 82-year-old teacher.

Their meeting is the first in 55 years as Mr Goh last visited Mr Brohier after his 'A' levels in 1960.
