SINGAPORE - An employer has been fined $12,000 for not paying his maid and barred from hiring any domestic workers in the future.
Razalee Rasdi, 51, owed his maid $7,450 in wages for working from him from February 2010 to May 2013.
The Manpower Ministry said on Wednesday that Razalee had also infringed work permit regulations by not keeping a record of salary payments to his maids.
Additionally, he did not pay the monthly levy for hiring a foreign domestic worker and as a result the maid's work permit was revoked. She has now been transferred to a new employer.
Maid employers who do not pay their workers promptly at least once a month can be fined up to $10,000 or jailed up to 12 months.
