DPM Tharman to visit New York, Washington for IMF, G-20 meetings

SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will visit New York and Washington, D.C. from Tuesday to Saturday.

In Washington D.C., Mr Tharman will attend the meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) and the G-20 Finance Ministers, the Ministry of Finance and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said in a joint statement on Monday.

The meetings will look at ways to achieve economic resilience in the face of emerging challenges and sustain the global recovery.

In New York, he will meet business leaders and Singaporean professionals, said the statement.

He will also witness the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Australia and Singapore on the establishment of the Global Infrastructure Hub, a G-20 initiative to better match global savings with viable infrastructural projects.

Mr Tharman will be accompanied by officials from the ministry and the MAS.
