SINGAPORE - For 24 hours, Victoria School students young and old will take part in a series of challenges that will give them the chance to contribute to the school and the community.

Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck, an old boy of the school, was at the launch of the 8th Victoria Challenge at Victoria School (VS) on Friday morning.

"Every four years, the Victoria Challenge will see the entire Victorian community coming together to improve the school and community around them," said Mr Teo, who is also Mayor of the North East District.

Launched in 1987 by then principal Mr Nicholas Tang, the event is a means for Victorians to contribute to the school through a series of challenges.

"The challenges were meant to stretch the endurance of some, and for others, to give back to the school and community that watched them grow," said Mr Andrew Lim, the school's principal.

The 8th Victorian Challenge will begin at 8.30am on Friday and end at 9am on Saturday.

All 42 classes will take part in activities such as painting murals around the school and volunteering at a nearby food kitchen in Joo Chiat.

A signature event featuring participants walking a cumulative 1,390 rounds around the campus will also be held to symbolise the 1,390 beneficiaries of the challenge.

Parents of current students as well as alumni are also participating in the signature event.
