Big Spell grand final open to public for first time

Readers of The Straits Times can see Singapore's top pupil spellers in action, battling for the top spot in the third RHB-The Straits Times National Spelling Championship on April 26, at ITE College Central.
They will be kept at the edge of their seats as pupils overcome their nerves to spell orally words that are read out to them by thespian and theatre lecturer Nora Samosir, who specialises in linguistics. Utter one wrong letter and they will be eliminated.
The champion will win $5,000 and the challenge trophy for his school. The champions of the 2012 and 2013 editions were both from Anglo-Chinese School (Primary).
Madam Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament, will be the guest of honour.
