SINGAPORE - About eight in 10 people who commented in a survey last year support having no-alcohol zones in public places and limiting when shops can sell alcohol for consumption outside of the premises.

The Oct 29 to Dec 31 survey was by government feedback portal Reach and the Ministry of Home Affairs, who declined to provide details on the number of responses.

The respondents of the survey suggested banning alcohol in neighbourhoods' common areas such as playgrounds, void decks and the areas around MRT stations. They also preferred alcohol sales at shops to end by midnight in residential areas and by 2am in entertainment districts.

Both measures were to improve public safety and reduce disamenities from people congregating and drinking in public places. The ministry is now seeking the public's views on different models to restrict the public consumption and sale of alcohol. To view the different models, go to &pid=" target="_blank">www.reach.gov.sg.
