SINGAPORE - A total of 74 projects paying tribute to community memories, in forms such as publications, websites and games, will go on show from April till August.

The projects include Island Nation, which documents life on six of Singapore's Southern islands through photos, short films and a website. In another project, local Lego fans used the blocks to put together icons such as the Merlion, a conserved shophouse and a double-decker bus.

The projects are part of a showcase called Past Forward and fall under the National Library Board's Singapore Memory Project and its irememberSG fund.

The public can get a preview of 20 projects from now till Friday at the National Library Board's (NLB) Plaza on Victoria Street.

At the launch of Past Forward on Wednesday, NLB chief executive Elaine Ng said it showcases the curated stories of the man in the street.

"We hope the memory movement that the Singapore Memory Project helped to generate will inspire more Singaporeans to capture memories for posterity," she said.

Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information, said: "This year, as our nation celebrates SG50, it is timely to reflect on our past, appreciate the progress we have made, and look forward to the future with confidence."

He said his Ministry, together with its statutory boards, has planned a series of events to commemorate Singapore's jubilee year.

The event line-up includes the Singapore Memory Project's film festival in May, the screening of films from the 1940s to 60s at the newly restored Capitol Theatre by the Media Development Authority in August and the Infocomm Development Authority's week-long festival of technology in September.
