Fifteen items have been shortlisted for the Jubilee Baby Gift, which will be given out to all Singaporeans born next year - the country's 50th year of independence.

The list includes items like baby rattles, family picture frames, diaper bags and special commemorative coins.

The public now has until May 15 to pick five items off the list at www.nptd.gov.sg/jubilee.

A five-member advisory panel chaired by Families for Life's Anita Fam drew the shortlist up from 6,500 suggestions on possible gift items given by members of public earlier this month, a National Population and Talent Division statement on Tuesday said.

The public submitted ideas through various platforms, like feedback booths, focus group sessions and government engagement platform Reach. Baby-related items and commemorative gifts made up 70 per cent of ideas raised.

The panel took note of feedback from focus group discussions, such as the need to make sure gift items are reasonably-priced and non-perishable.

Items shortlisted fulfill some of the following elements: 'Care' for the baby; 'Celebrate' the baby and family bonding, or 'Commemorate' the baby's birth.

The final set of items will be announced in the middle of the year.
