13 companies win awards for fair employment

More companies have been lauded for their good employment practices this year by Singapore's anti-discrimination watchdog.

The number of submissions for the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (Tafep) Exemplary Employer Award has risen 30 per cent since the last time the awards were held.

Eight companies picked up overall wins at this year's awards ceremony on Monday. The biennial award recognises organisations who champion fair and progressive employment practices.

More smaller companies participated as well - there were 36 submissions from small and medium-sized enterprises this year, compared to 15 two years ago.

"Putting in place progressive employment practices should not be treated as an after-thought or an extra-curricular activity...these practices should be part of (companies') core values," said Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin, who was the-guest-of honour at the awards ceremony at Pan Pacific Singapore.

The overall winners were Aviva, FedEx Express Singapore, Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre, International Paradise Connexions Tours and Travels, Maybank Singapore, National University Hospital and T-Systems Singapore.

Seven special mention awards were also given out to companies that maintained inclusive workplaces and supported mature employees and women. These were Adrenalin Group, Eighteen Chefs, International SOS, Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, National Kidney Foundation, Singapore Post and National University Hospital.
