Serangoon North HUDC estate completes privatisation

The HUDC estate at Serangoon North Avenue 1 has been privatised, becoming a strata-titled property under the Land Titles (Strata) Act, the Housing and Development Board said in a statement on Thursday.

This is after the required 75 per cent support was achieved for the move, which was initiated by residents.

The estate comprises 244 units of flats at Blocks 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133 and 134 Serangoon North Avenue 1.

This was the fourteenth of 18 Housing and Urban Development Company estates to complete the privatisation process, with the remaining four in the midst of doing so.

These estates were introduced in the 1970s for middle-income families.

In 1995, it was announced that they could be privatised, to meet Singaporeans' aspirations of owning private property.

With the privatisation, the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council will no longer be responsible for the management and maintenance of the estate. Instead, the Management Corporation Strata Title Plan No. 3965 has been constituted to do this.

Individual owners in the estate now own their respective strata units, as well as jointly owning the common property such as car parks and open landscaped areas.
