Some 250 items of feedback about MediShield Life sent to government feedback unit Reach

SINGAPORE - The government feedback unit Reach has received about 250 contributions on its MediShield Life microsite, Facebook page and via e-mail, since the MediShield Life Review Committee's report was released on July 27.

Dr Amy Khor, who is Reach chairman and Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower, said on Wednesday that a common concern was whether MediShield Life coverage was only for those who used Class B2 and C wards.

She said MediShield Life covers all Singaporeans regardless of the class of ward they choose.

However, "MediShield Life coverage is pegged to expenses in subsidised wards B2 and C class wards, so if they were to opt to go to a higher ward class or to private hospitals they can still claim the same benefits from MediShield Life," she said.

However, she noted, those who opt for a higher ward class or private hospitals "would have to pay a higher amount, because the bill sizes for unsubsidised wards and for private hospitals would be higher".

Dr Khor was speaking on Wednesday night before a Facebook chat #AskAmy, in which she answered questions from the public.
