SINGAPORE - About 40 Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Maseratis ferried brain tumour patients, survivors and caregivers on a Brainy Car Joyride to commemorate the inaugural Brain Tumour Awareness Day on Saturday.
The awareness day was launched by Brain Tumour Society (Singapore) at the Kallang Leisure Park. The society, set up in March this year to provide support to patients and caregivers, hopes to raise awareness about the disease through the event.
A total of 20 supercars drove patients, survivors and caregivers from Kallang to various locations such as Ang Mo Kio Hub and Bishan Junction 8, where they handed out grey balloons and information kits on the disease. The remaining supercars made their way to KK Women's and Children's Hospital, where the first Pediatric Brain Tumour Awareness Day was held, to highlight the plight of children with the illness.
In Singapore, about 40 children and about 100 adults are diagnosed with malignant brain tumours every year. The event was attended by Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC David Ong, who is also patron of the society. "I am looking forward to contribute to this special cause by helping to bring attention to this disease, and ultimately improve the lives of current and future patients and caregivers," said Mr Ong.
