SINGAPORE - Know anyone or any organisation around the world who has done outstanding work in solving water shortage and other water challenges? They can now be nominated for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2016.
The prize, started in 2008, comprises $300,000, a certificate and a gold medallion. It is awarded as part of the Singapore International Water Week held every two years in Singapore.
The event brings together businessmen, government officials, academics and others to discuss water issues around the world, and will be held from July 10 to 14 next year at the Marina Bay Sands' Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
The nominations should be done online at https://www.gevme.com/lee-kuan-yew-water-prize-2016 by June 1 this year. Self-nominations and nominations by family members are not allowed.
The 2014 laureate was the Orange County Water District, for its pioneering work in groundwater management and water reclamation. Other past laureates include Dr James Barnard, who won the 2011 prize for inventing a biological method to treat used water so it can be returned safely to lakes and rivers.
