Participants in the latest public discussion on making Singapore more sustainable suggested the Republic turn its taxi fleet all electric, weave environmental education throughout school curriculum, and make the results of environmental impact assessments and other reports public.

These were among the suggestions that the 40 or so students, professionals and other members of the public gave when they took part in the first of three Conversations on Sustainable Singapore on Saturday.

The event at Singapore Management University was organised by the Nature Society (Singapore), environment consultants Green Future Solutions, and SMU Verts, the Singapore Management University's green club.

The Conversations aim to harvest specific ideas and solutions from participants, and complement other public dialogues on environment such as those by the Singapore Environment Council, said Mr Eugene Tay of Green Future Solutions.

Feedback will be compiled and sent to the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources for the ministry's national review this year of the Sustainable Singapore Blueprint, which outlines Singapore's environmental strategy.

"There's a difference between a wishlist and an actual plan, and we wanted to see more concrete suggestions from the people sector," Mr Tay said.
