SINGAPORE - Those interested in a first-hand experience of pre-school jobs can join a traineeship programme launched today.

They will get two weeks of on-the-job training, receive allowance of at least $4.50 an hour and a "completion incentive" of $200 if they attend at least 75 per cent of the programme. They also receive another $300 if they go on to take up a job in the pre-school sector.

Through the programme, trainees can have a better understanding of the job requirements, while pre-school operators can gauge trainees' job suitability before offering them positions, said the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and the Early Childhood Development Agency in a joint statement.

Those interested in the scheme can find out more through the WDA career centres co-located at the community development councils.

The programme was launched by Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing at the inaugural Early Childhood Career and Education Fair held at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

He also launched a career guide for pre-school professionals. It gives job seekers information about the industry, entry pathways and training opportunities.

More than 500 job positions were on offer at the fair, which had about 30 booths set up by employers and training agencies.
