SINGAPORE - Primary school pupils received their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results on Friday morning.

This year, 66.4 per cent of pupils - marginally lower than the record 66.7 per cent in the 2013 cohort - who sat the national examination qualified for the Express stream in secondary school. In previous years, the percentage of pupils qualifying for that stream ranged from 62 per cent to 63.6 per cent.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a statement on Friday that another 20 per cent are eligible for the Normal (Academic) stream and 11.2 per cent of this year's pupils made it to the Normal (Technical) stream.

A total of 42,336 Primary 6 pupils sat for the PSLE this year.

Some 97.6 per cent of the cohort passed the exam and can move on to secondary school. This is slightly higher than last year's 97.5 per cent.

This is third year that the Education Ministry is not revealing the top PSLE scorer in a bid to reduce emphasis on academic results.

It also did not reveal the highest and lowest scores achieved by pupils in the cohort, a move started last year.
