Nanyang Technological University appoints two new members to its board of trustees

SINGAPORE- The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has appointed two new members to its board of trustees with effect from last Wednesday.

The duo, who are both NTU alumni, are Mr Lim Chow Kiat, group chief investment officer of GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, and Mr Tan Chin Hwee, a founding partner in Asia for investment firm Apollo Management Singapore.

Emeritus Professor Haresh Shah of Stanford University and Mr Kwek Leng Joo, deputy chairman of property developer City Developments Limited, stepped down from the board at the end of last month.

The NTU board of trustees comprises 19 members and is currently chaired by Mr Koh Boon Hwee, chairman of private equity firm Credance Partners.

In a statement, the university extended its appreciation to Mr Kwek and Prof Shah.

NTU President, Professor Bertil Andersson, said, "As chair of the Academic Affairs Committee, Professor Haresh Shah has consistently been very focused and uncompromising in setting and maintaining high standards for the university's academic programmes and faculty. This discipline has clearly served us well.""

Of Mr Kwek's contributions, Prof Andersson said: "The university is fortunate to have benefitted from Mr Kwek's vast property development expertise and experience in the development and implementation of our campus master plan."

He added that NTU is pleased that Mr Kwek will continue to serve as a member of the university's campus planning committee.
