SINGAPORE - Students who had tuition help from the four ethnic-based self-help groups here received awards on Saturday morning for their academic achievements.

The Chinese Development Assistance Council, Eurasian Association, Singapore Indian Development Association and Yayasan Mendaki gave out awards to 571 students who sat for the PSLE, N levels and O levels examinations last year.

Senior Minister of State for Education and Law Indranee Rajah said in a speech that the ceremony "embodies our national spirit of the different communities coming together as one united society".

Each of the four groups offers tuition programmes to their students, and since 2002 they opened the programmes to students from other groups. There are 69 collaborative tuition centres now, Ms Indranee said.
