A veteran doctor and motoring writer already convicted of molesting a patient was charged on Wednesday with knowingly making a false declaration when trying to get his practising certificate.

Winston Lee Siew Boon, 70, allegedly stated in writing to the Singapore Medical Council that he had not been the subject of an inquiry or of any police probe since his last declaration.

The alleged offence occurred on July 23 last year.

But Lee was convicted last month of molesting a 34-year-old sales representative at Thong Hoe Clinic in Bukit Batok Street 11, in June and October 2011. The trial went on for seven days. His lawyers will mitigate for him on April 23.

Lee has contributed motoring articles to The Straits Times' Life! section and Torque magazine.

His lawyer Charles Lin asked for a pre-trial conference date, and told the court he would be making representations. A pre-trial conference is set for May 16.

Under the Medical Registration Act, the maximum penalty for making a fraudulent declaration is a $10,000 fine and two years' jail.
