Two suspected lift molesters arrested for outrage of modesty

Police have arrested two men for suspected involvement in two separate cases of outrage of modesty.

The first case took place on Monday at about 11pm, when a 26-year-old woman, alone in a lift with an unknown man in a Telok Blangah Rise housing estate, was molested by him. Officers from the Central Police Division carried out investigations and, with the help of CCTV recordings of the lift, apprehended a 26-year-old man matching the description of the suspect on Wednesday.

In the second case that took place on Wednesday, a 27-year-old woman was inside a lift at a Beach Road housing estate with an unknown man when he molested her before fleeing. Officers, also from Central Police Division, established his identity following investigations and arrested a 37-year-old suspect at Geylang East Avenue 3 on Thursday morning.

If found guilty of outrage of modesty, the suspects each face jail of up to two years and caning.

Police advised members of the public not to enter the lift with a stranger, but to instead let the stranger take the lift and wait for the next one.
