Police have arrested two 28-year-old men for allegedly pawning fake gold jewellery.

Since April, a spate of cheating cases involving fake gold jewellery at pawnshops islandwide were reported. The suspects would visit the pawnshops and pass off the fake jewellery as genuine ones in exchange for cash.

Two male suspects were arrested on May 6. Fake gold jewellery were also recovered in one of the suspect's possession. Preliminary investigations indicated that the duo were involved in a few cheating cases involving more than $7,000.

Investigations are on-going. The offence of cheating carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years and a fine.
