Two men arrested over theft of $260,000 diamond ring

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two men for alleged involvement in the theft of a 3.46 carat diamond ring.

On Thursday afternoon, an alarm was activated in a jewellery store at Orchard Road after an employee discovered a diamond ring worth more than S$260,000 was missing.

The two suspects, both 48-year-old Chinese nationals, were arrested in the vicinity of the store shortly after. They are expected to be charged with theft in the State Courts on Saturday, a police statement said on Friday. If convicted, they could face up to seven years in jail and a fine.

Police advised retailers to implement adequate theft prevention measures, such as ensuring expensive merchandise is locked in display cabinets and installing CCTV.
