Suspected taxi robber arrested in 15 hours

Police have arrested a 39-year-old man suspected of robbing a taxi driver of $10 on Thursday night.

A 34-year-old cabby reported that he had been robbed by a male passenger at around 9.45pm onYung Sheng Road.

Investigations found that the suspect allegedly hailed the taxi at West Coast Road before snatching the note from the victim's shirt pocket then fleeing at his destination.

Officers from Jurong Police Division conducted intensive investigations, established the suspect's identity and arrested him less than 15 hours later at noon on Friday on Clementi Avenue 5.

If convicted of robbery, he faces up to 14 years' jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
