Singapore appoints four new judicial commissioners

SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam appointed four new judicial commissioners on Monday.

They are Ms Valerie Thean Pik Yuen, 45, Ms Hoo Sheau Peng, 44, Associate Professor Debbie Ong Siew Ling, 48, and Mr Aedit Abdullah, 44.

Ms Thean will also be the presiding judge of the Family Justice Courts from Oct 1.

As judicial commissioners, the four will have the powers of a High Court judge, and hear the Supreme Court matters. The Supreme Court is made up of the Court of Appeal and the High Court.

With these new appointments, Singapore now has eight judicial commissioners and 14 judges, including Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon.
