Seven teens arrested for shop theft

SINGAPORE - The police on Wednesday arrested seven teenagers in connection with a series theft cases island-wide.

The suspects, seven youths aged between 15 and 18, are believed to have stolen a variety of electronic gadgets, including video cameras and headphones.

The items were recovered from the suspects, who were arrested last week, following a police report filed two weeks earlier from an electronics store at Changi Airport.

The comprehensive network of security cameras within the airport helped police with their investigations, said the Singapore Police Force on Wednesday.

The teens apparently worked in groups, with some acting as look-outs and distracting the sales staff while others stole the goods.

The suspects are also believed to have cut wires securing some of the products, and also sold some of the stolen items online.

Investigations are ongoing to to establish whether they had been involved in a handful of other similar cases.

The punishment for shop theft is a prison term of up to seven years and a fine.
