SINGAPORE - Senior counsel Kannan Ramesh has been appointed a Judicial Commissioner of the High Court.

The 49-year-old will serve for a term of two years with effect from May 22, said a statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Friday.

Judicial Commissioners have the powers of a judge and are appointed for a specific period. With the new appointment, the Supreme Court will have a total of 13 judges, 10 Judicial Commissioners and five senior judges.

Mr Ramesh specialises in dispute resolution, insolvency and restructuring, and international arbitration. He is the managing partner of Tan Kok Quan Partnership. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1990, and was appointed a senior counsel - which recognises the best and most skilful advocates in the legal profession - in 2012.
