A security officer was charged in court on Friday with corruptly getting "coffee money'' from a domestic worker in return for not taking further action against her for drinking water at an MRT station.

Kalaiarasan Muniandy was employed by Certis Cisco Protection Services when he allegedly got $10 cash from one "Hasna" at Paya Lebar MRT station, in exchange for not taking further action against her for drinking water on Jan 19 this year.

Part of the 22-year-old Malaysian's duty as a transit security officer for SMRT was to conduct bag checks on commuters.

He indicated that he wished to plead guilty to the charge.

He will return to court on May 16 for his case to be dealt with in another court.

The maximum penalty for corruption is a $100,000 fine and five years' jail.
