Security guard hurt, dies after being in coma for about a month

SINGAPORE - An elderly security guard who was taken to hospital while working the night shift, died on Monday after being in a coma for about a month.

The 74-year-old man was on duty at Fajar Shopping Centre in Bukit Panjang on Nov 18 when he was taken to the National University Hospital, Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily reported on Friday.

The police had received a call at about 11.50pm that night, requesting help at Block 440 Fajar Road, near the shopping centre.

Shin Min said he was in a coma for about a month.

Police said a 51-year-old man was arrested and charged in court for voluntarily causing grievous hurt on Nov 20. It said it could not comment further as the case is before the courts.
