SINGAPORE - A man who grew sick of a hawker drilling holes at his stall downstairs went to confront him with a knife.

Goh Buck Song, 41, was fined $1,000 on Monday for causing alarm to 39-year-old Mr Chiong Chee San, who had been renovating his outlet.

Goh also had a charge of mischief taken into consideration after he picked up a glass cup from the stall's counter and smashed it on the ground.

The incident happened around 5.30pm on Jan 17, outside Ji De Lai Wanton Noodle Stall in Block 338 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

The court heard that two hours earlier, Mr Chiong had started drilling at the stall after he was done selling food.

Goh scolded Mr Chiong for causing the noise, and threw the glass cup. He returned to his flat, but then saw his father heading downstairs, also to confront Mr Chiong over the noise.

He heard the two men having a heated argument. He then took the 14cm blade from his kitchen and confronted Mr Chiong.

Goh, a food seller, could have been jailed for up to six months and fined up to $5,000 under the Protection from Harassment Act.
