Project manager jailed for taking 'upskirt' photos on escalator

SINGAPORE - A part-time project manager who took an 'upskirt' video of a woman on an escalator was jailed for three weeks on Wednesday.

Teh Liat Wei, 56, who faced six counts of insulting modesty, pleaded guilty to one charge of using his mobile phone to film the 30-year-old operations officer.

He filmed her underwear while on an escalator leading to NEX mall from Serangoon MRT station on Sept 16 last year.

A court heard that Teh had been walking towards the MRT station that evening when he stood behind the victim. He placed his mobile phone on his thigh area, directly facing the bottom of the victim's skirt, and filmed her without her knowledge.

A woman saw what he did and approached the victim to ask if she knew Teh. When she said she did not, the women confronted Teh.

Five other charges - three committed on Sept 13 and another two on Sept 16 last year - were considered during his sentencing. His cellphone was forfeited.

He could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined for insulting modesty.
