SINGAPORE - A 35-year-old man believed to have been involved in two separate cases of armed robbery has been arrested, the police said in a statement on Friday.

In the first case, a female victim claimed that a man had followed her into a lift at Jalan Tiga, which is near Old Airport Road, at 4.32pm last Friday.

As she was about to exit the lift, the man pulled her back in, and subsequently led her to the exit of a nearby staircase.

There, he robbed and molested the victim before fleeing the scene.

The second case occurred two days later (June 29) at about 7pm in the evening.

This time, a female victim claimed a man rushed into a lift at Jalan Tenaga, just before the doors closed.

He whipped out a sharp object to threaten the victim, and fled after taking away some cash.

After conducting investigations, police officers from the Bedok Police Division were able to establish the identity of the suspect, and arrested him along Guillemard Road early yesterday morning.

If convicted, he could be sent to jail for up to 14 years and receive a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane for armed robbery.

He also faces the prospect of another jail term of not more than 10 years, and more strokes of the cane for aggravated outrage of modesty.
