Police arrest woman on suspicion of being a loanshark runner

SINGAPORE - A 31-year-old woman was arrested on Friday on suspicion of being a loanshark runner.

Police officers nabbed her in the vicinity of Woodlands Circle and also seized a mobile phone.

The woman is believed to be a debtor-turned-runner.

A police statement said: "She had acted on the instructions from loanshark syndicates to visit debtors' residences located at Holland Road, Yishun, Meiling Street, Woodlands, Sembawang and Telok Blangah to check for signs of loansharking harrassment."

She will be charged in court on Saturday. If found guilty of assisting in the business of an unlicensed moneylender, she could be fined between $30,000 and $300,000 and jailed for up to four years.
