A 51-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning for suspected outrage of modesty on board an MRT train.

At about 8.35am on Thursday, the female victim was on a train towards City Hall MRT station when she was allegedly molested by the man. She confronted the suspect and brought him to the control station when the train arrived at Bugis MRT station, said the police in a statement.

The police were alerted and the suspect was placed under arrest. Investigations are ongoing. If convicted of outrage of modesty, the suspect can be jailed for up to two years, fined, and also be liable to caning.

The commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Daniel Tan, advised members of the public to be cautious when they are in a crowded area. He urged the public to remain calm if they encounter such crimes, to seek help immediately, and to call '999' as soon as it is safe to do so.
