Police arrest 2 men for rioting after fight with housemate over utility bill

The police have arrested two men, aged 29 and 36, for being part of a group of assailants who allegedly assaulted three men in a housing estate in Jurong West Street 1.

On Labour Day at about 3.30am, a report was made by the 29-year-old victim who alleged that he was assaulted by his housemate and the housemate's eight friends.

Investigations revealed that the victim had a dispute with the 29-year-old suspect over their utilities bill. The dispute escalated into violence with the suspect and eight other persons allegedly assaulting the victim and two other housemates.

Officers from Jurong Police Division responded to the call and placed two men under arrest. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining persons involved. The two suspects will be charged with rioting. If convicted they may be jailed up to seven years and caned. Foreigners convicted for serious offences are liable to be repatriated upon serving their sentences, said the police in a statement on Sunday.
