Nine arrested in illegal gambling den raid

The police have arrested nine people in an illegal gambling den at a commercial building along Upper Paya Lebar Road.

They picked up the suspects, aged 22 to 66, after a five-hour raid on Wednesday, May 7. The suspects were either running the den or gambling in it. Eighteen modified computers and more than $1,000 worth of cash were seized. Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted of managing a place to be used as a Common Gaming House faces a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, and up to three years in jail. As for the participants, anyone convicted of an offence of gaming in a Common Gaming House faces a maximum fine of $5,000, up to six months in jail, or both.
