National serviceman jailed 11 months for sex with girl, 14

SINGAPORE - A full-time national serviceman who had sex with a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook was jailed for 11 months on Tuesday.

Lee Hong Qiang, 22, who faced three charges, admitted to one charge of sexual penetration of a minor at his flat in Henderson Road in June last year.

A district court heard that Lee first saw the girl as a "suggested friend" and decided to add her before messaging her and asking for her number.

They began chatting and the conversations soon developed a sexual nature.

In June last year, he invited her to his home where they had unprotected sex.

Lee, who had been sentenced to reformative training for unlicensed moneylending harassment in November 2011, was tagged at the time of the latest offence.

Noting that this was the second time he had sex with the girl, District Judge Luke Tan said it did not appear to be a case of impulsive loss of control.

Lee could have been jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined for having sex with a girl under 16 years old.
