The parents of an Indonesian maid accused of murdering her employer will be coming to Singapore to assist with investigations, a district court heard on Thursday.

Dewi Sukowati, 23, is alleged to have murdered 69-year-old socialite Nancy Gan at her Victoria Park Road home on the morning of March 19. Ms Gan was found dead in her swimming pool with wounds to her head.

Lawyer Mohamed Muzammil, who was appointed by the Indonesian embassy to represent Dewi, said that the investigation officer has requested for her parents to come to Singapore later this month to be interviewed by the psychiatrist evaluating her. He added that the Indonesian embassy will be providing accommodation for them during their stay.

Mr Mohamed also said in court that he hopes for Dewi's age to be verified. He told The Straits Times that there is a dispute over her actual age, and that she might be younger than the reported 23-year-old. Dewi will be remanded at Central Police Division until next Thursday, when her case will be mentioned again.
