SINGAPORE- A Malaysian bus driver suspected of knocking over and killing a Singaporean cyclist near Johor's Legoland theme park on Sunday has been detained.
The 45-year-old driver was detained on Tuesday evening at 6.15pm in Jalan Nusantara in Gelang Patah, Johor, not too far from the theme park.
He will assist in police investigations, Nusajaya district police chief. Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad, told The Straits Times on Wednesday.
Mr Arthur Yap, a 48-year-old corporate communications manager at port operator PSA, had taken his wife and two young children to the theme park for the Father's Day weekend.
He went out cycling alone around the area on Sunday morning. He was killed when his bicycle collided with a bus.
The Malaysian police was quoted as saying that Mr Yap was clad in full cycling gear, and had hit the back of the factory bus.
But Mr Yap's brother Paul Yap, 45, told The Straits Times on Wednesday night that it "does not make sense".
He said his brother had severe head injuries, presumably because a wheel had run over him. "If my brother hit the back of the bus, how did he end up under the wheel?" he said.
The younger Yap added that the Malaysian authorities had not contacted the family to update them. The Malaysian police said they are still looking for witnesses to "complete the investigations".
