SINGAPORE - A motorist who accidentally ran over a Certis Cisco officer as he checked a car in front of him was given the maximum $5,000 fine and banned from driving for three years on Monday.

Sadiasilan Krishnan, 52, mistakenly hit the accelerator while Mr Muhammad Yazid Zainordin was conducting a routine check at the main gate of Woodleigh Complex (Public Utilities Board) at Woodleigh Park on Sept 10 last year

Sadiasilan's car mounted a kerb and ran over Mr Yazid, causing him serious injuries.

The 30-year-old was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital suffering multiple facial and scalp lacerations, left forearm and hand abrasions, cuts to his arm, a dislocated left knee and a large right thigh wound.

He was warded for 27 days and did not return to work until February this year.

Pleading for a light sentence, Sadiasilan said in mitigation that he was very sorry and had wanted to visit the victim in hospital but was told he was still angry about the incident.

He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for causing grievous hurt through a negligent act to endanger life.
