Man jailed four weeks for molesting woman in MRT station lift

SINGAPORE - An Indian national who molested a woman in a lift at an MRT station was jailed for four weeks on Tuesday.

Kandasamy Krishnan, 27, who works in an electrical company, pleaded guilty to grabbing the left arm of a 28-year-old Filipino woman in an attempt to kiss her in the lift at Serangoon station on March 7 this year.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Asran Samad said the victim and Kandasamy had alighted at the MRT station at Upper Serangoon Road at about 7.45am that day.

When she took the lift to get to the street level, Kandasamy decided to follow her. He rushed in as the lift door was about to close.

As the lift was ascending, Kandasamy stepped forward to grab the victim's arm and tried to kiss her on the face. She screamed and pushed him away.

Kandasamy then rushed out of the lift when the lift door opened. The victim tried to stop him from running away by grabbing onto his haversack but he managed to escape, said Mr Asran.

She later contacted her husband who called the police.

Kandasamy was arrested some days later.

He could have been jailed for up to two years, fined, caned or received any combination of the punishments.
